5 Moments of Greatness: 90's Music

5 Moments of Greatness looks at the lost quintessential music from more than a decade ago. We feel old.

5. Goo Goo Dolls: I know two things about the Goo Goo Dolls, 1) They are from Buffalo and 2) They tune their guitars funny. Lots of hair product in this one. Lots.

4. Joan Osborne: One of Us. I can't hear this song without thinking of Austin Powers. What if God was one us? Just a stranger on a bus. Deep Joan, totally deep. Note the piercing, classic 90's demarcation.

3. Jamiriquai: Virtual Insanity. Let's go through this...Large hat - check, conveyor belt floor - check, male hip hop with male backup dancers - check, bad facial hair - check. Random bird flying - check. We're almost to sensory Armageddon.

2. Alice in Chains: Man in a Box. When I was in high school we drove around and wore this tape out. You could at that time wear tapes out. It almost looks like a parody video today. I can't help but think of this song whenever I see a mime.

1. The Verve: Bittersweet Symphony. The moral here is don't over-sample the Rolling Stones or you'll end up writing a great song and never seeing a dime for it.
