Mason is named the Punchers, as in Cow Punchers. The Stamford Bulldogs, about 45 minutes north of Abilene were a handful in the 50's when they won the State Title 3 times and played for it a 4th.

Mason runs the Wing-T, plays in a stadium called the "Puncher Dome" and has a defensive back with 12 interceptions. Stamford quarterback Hagen Hutchinson has 36 passing touchdowns and  26 rushing scores. He's the Tim Tebow of Texas High School football except Hagen throws a spiral.

Hempstead beat Tatum and punched their ticket to state on a 94 yard kick-off return. Both Melissa and Hempstead are making their first trip to state. Melissa high school graduated its first senior class in 2007.

Tenaha has won every game except one by at least 28 points. They won state in 98 and that rhymes. Munday are the Moguls which is a strong nickname we can all get behind. They won state in 2007 and average 51 points a game. Hempstead is the former home of the now it's the home 1,000 yard rusher Archie Taylor. Melissa, Texas sounds like a bad adult film star name but it's actually a quant hamlet north of McKinney.
