Fundamentally Sound February 4th

(2) Kansas - 61 at West Virginia - 56

West Virginia had the Jayhawks on their heels in the second half. Kansas went into halftime up by 8 , but you could tell that the Mountaineers were trying to mount a huge upset. They came into the second half playing well, and ended the game with half as many turnovers as Kansas. This game was a great example of how good Kansas is, mainly because West Virginia should have won the game. They had a Kansas team playing pretty poorly, but a few of the Jayhawk players stepped up and outplayed the rest of the West Virginia team. Kansas played pretty bad, as you can tell my Bill Self’s constant look of disgust. And of course, Huggy screaming most of the game, how could you not love him.

Texas - 57 at (18) Kansas State - 83

Texas was outmatched from the get go. They hit a drought for a a while and could not get out of it. What is great about this team, is that the starters for the Wildcats scored were outscored by the bench by 7 points. That is a huge advantage to have on your team. Poor Texas, going to be a rough year.

Oklahoma - 74 at Baylor - 71

Two starters for OU, M’Baye and Pledgger, scored 20 points, while the rest fo the points were distributed amongst the rest of the Sooners. Lon has this team doing a total turnaround this year. They are fun to watch. A couple more years until the Blakey G. days, but they are on their way up.

Iowa State - 76 at Oklahoma State - 78

Iowa State is good, and going into Stillwater and only losing by 2 points is proof that they are a good team. The Cowboys are great at home, almost unbeatable, but this Cyclone team took them down to the wire. If you want to watch a great player, watch Marcus Smart, he is great, and Markel Brown is easily making a name for him in the Big 12. Nash, not so much. He is not quite living up to his hype. OSU has a tough game against Kansas this weekend. The Cowboys have potential to win, and I predict they will either win by a few points or get dominated.

 Texas A&M - 55 @ Mississippi State - 49

Two middle of the road SEC teams battled it out and it took the Aggies going to overtime for them to win. They are a decent team, but don’t look for them to do a whole lot this year.

Oklahoma State 85 at (2) Kansas 80

33 games, 33 GAMES was the best home win streak in the league. But the Cowboys didn’t care. They led by 14 at one point and 8 at half. The end of the game was crazy, basically a tennis match, back and forth and a lot of fouls. But by the end, Travis Ford was relived, Markel Brown was screaming, and Marcus Smart was doing a back flip:

I thought they could do it, but I probably wouldn’t have bet money on it. OSU has potential to be on of the best teams, but they don’t have the coaching. But it is February, and this is when basketball really starts. So ...

(18) Kansas State 52 at Oklahoma 50

I said OU was good, and this was another proof of that. K State only won by two. Granted it was in Norman, but OU played a great game. All but one of the Sooners scored, which is a great distribution, but only one scoring in double digits. The Sooners went on a 10-2 run at the end of the game, trying to win. Watch for the Sooners in February. It is going to be a great month:

West Virginia - 77 at Texas Tech - 61

You know when you were in high school, and your coach made you go to the Freshman B game for support, but it was like watching, well freshman basketball, that is what these teams are like. They are just not that good. West Virginia has a great coach and potential, but when it comes down to it, they can’t win the big games. Not much to say about this game.

Baylor - 71 at Iowa State - 79

Will Clyburn got his sixth double-double of the season to help Iowa State win it’s 19th game at home.

TCU - 43 at Texas - 60

The Longhorns played a great game. They shot 52% from the field and blew out the Horned Frogs. It was a great win for the Longhorns, even though it was TCU.

Games to watch

(21) Creighton @ Indiana State

I don’t know what to think about this game. The Sycamores are playing great, and the Blue Jays may not be ready for them. Call this one an upset.

(23) Minnesota @ (13) Michigan State)

This will be a fun game to watch. I think Tubby will have his Gophers ready.

Iowa State @ Kansas State

Going out on a limb right now, but I think Iowa State wins. They have been close over the past few weeks, and K State is weak right now. Calling an upset here.

(2) Kansas @ Oklahoma

Kansas wins, but it is close. This is a huge test for the Sooners. If they can take them down to the wire, it could define the rest of the season.

Pitt @ Cincy

I think Jamie Dixon has his team ready and they beat the Bearcats.
