UTEP now owns I-10. I don’t know if they’ll impose any tariffs or tolls but after last night it’s theirs. The Miners knocked off New Mexico State in Las Cruces for Sean Kuglers first win as Miners coach.

Jameill Showers continues to look serviceable as UTEP’s quarterback after complete 18 of 28 for 253. Showers also ran for 24 yards and a score. Both teams scored in on their first play from scrimmage, after that things settled a bit before the Miners ran away in the second half.

UTEP defense clamped down in the second half, getting better on third down and against the rush. That cued that Miners run game in the second half which accounted for 244 yards and a clock eating 8 plus minute drive to seal the game. As a former offensive lineman the drive must have been Kugler’s wet dream.

UTEP now gets UTSA at home in their first C-USA game.
