I know it’s New Mexico, but UTSA pulled off a historic win Saturday in the ABQ. Leading in the 4th, Runners went on a 99-yard game sealing drive that culminated in an Eric Soza TD pass and a 21-13 win.
Soza was what he’s always been for the Roadrunners, Mr. Everything. Soza threw fro 237 yards, 2 TD and ran for 48 yard. New Mexico could throw the ball to save their lives, though they didn’t really try only attempting 17 passes total. The Lobos also went for a two point conversion in the first quarter, it failed of course, not sure the explanation for it but it going for two was odd and chasing points the rest of the way. The Lobos MO is to run, then run, and finally run some more, while UTSA’s defensive weakness is, well everything, but in particular playing the pass, so New Mexico may have played more into UTSA’s hands.
All that being said, this was a big win, especially when you look ahead to Oklahoma State and Arizona coming up on the schedule. Better still the fact that UTSA fought back from 13 down to pull out a big win. It gets real bumpy for the next couple of weeks but UTSA is already ahead of schedule.
