Midway through the third, on the road in Athens, against number 9 Georgia, in the rain, UNT was tied with the big bad Dawgs. They got there with special teams and opportunistic offense. Then Georgia hit a gear that UNT didn't have and pulled away.

North Texas' offense struggled on the day, but Derek Thompson cemented his status as one of the most improved players in college football. Thompson managed a game in which the Mean Green managed just 25 yards rushing a 0.3 yards a carry.

The Mean Green get a week to work that out before a trip to Tulane and their C-USA opener.
