UTSA took a huge step in the credibility of the program with a win over UTEP in the school's first C-USA game. The Runners were paced by Soza again, the QB was solid if not spectacular for UTSA. Big plays abounded at the beginning of the game, but neither team could keep up the fast start.
UTEP needs more downfield options for Showers. He's been solid, but needs to try and open up the run by stretching things vertically. UTSA's defense wasn't bothered by much UTEP did offensively, the Miners running game was ineffective, and the passing attack didn't help. UTEP is what it is, which may not be very good. UTSA may be better than we expected.
Houston visits San Antonio next week while UTEP travels to Colorado State.
