Round-Up Recap: Rice Avoids Humiliating Loss to Florida Atlantic

FAU (1-4) 14

Rice (2-2) 18

PASS: Hankerson (FAU): 22-46, 272, 2 TD McHargue (RICE): 7-25, 69

RUSH: Wallace (FAU): 12-73 McHargue (RICE): 15-71

REC: Dukes (FAU): 3-72, TD Taylor (RICE): 3-39

FAU is bad. Not as bad as FIU, but still FAU is a bad football team. Rice harbors 10 win dreams and conference title aspirations. Last night the bad team almost knocked out the championship dreamers.

Rice has to find a running game or maybe just some offense. The Owls struggled to do much for 3 plus quarters against FAU, the Rice defense kept the game close. Still Rice trailed 14-6 midway through the fourth and this they found a horseshoe in their pants that consisted of timely offense, opportunistic defense, and FAU burping up a win. Rice scored with a little over four minutes to go to make the score 14-12. FAU then threw a pick and Rice scored to take the first lead. FAU then aimed directly at its own foot and threw yet another pick sealing a Rice win.

The Owls were held to 273 yards of offense, that’s a problem heading into a C-USA showdown at Tulsa.
