Round-Up Recap: UTEP Can't Hold Stop Getting Rammed

UTEP (1-3) 42

Colorado State (2-3) 59

PASS: Showers (UTEP): 26-43, 365, 5 TD Grayson (CSU): 17-28, 307, 3 TD

RUSH: Jones (UTEP): 23-94 Bibbs (CSU): 13-147, 3 TD

REC: Tomlinson (UTEP): 8-75, TD Higgins (CSU): 6-156, 2 TD

Colorado State was blowing out UTEP in the third quarter, up 21. Then came 6 magical minutes in the third quarter when the Miners struck gold and 21 straight points. Ah, but then Colorado State remembered that these games are typically 60 minutes in length and ran away from UTEP.

The good news is that the UTEP offense had some rhythm, and Jameill Showers looked like a weapon. He and Jordan Leslie synced up for two touchdowns and Ian Hamilton caught a third in just over six minutes in the third quarter to stun the Rams.

The bad news is that UTEP’s defense had no rhythm at all or at least couldn’t stop CSU from doing whatever it wanted. The other bad news is that UTEP didn’t have any ability to run the ball. It may be a long year in El Paso.

UTEP gets Louisiana Tech at home next week in what looks like a must win.
