Texas State and UTSA to renew fledgling football series
The Bud is pleased to announce that Texas State and UTSA will be going at it once again on the grid-iron very soon. Texas State athletic director Larry Teis and UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey announced that the two schools would meet at Bobcat Stadium on Sept. 23, 2017 and in the Alamodome on Sept. 22, 2018.
"With the proximity and similarities that we have, this could develop into a special college football rivalry," Texas State head coach Dennis Franchione. "It will be a great game for the fans of both schools to watch."
Texas State and UTSA will play again beginning in 2020 when the two teams start a six-year home-and-home series on Sept. 12, 2020 at Bobcat Stadium. The two schools also will meet on Texas State's home field on Sept. 10, 2022 and Sept. 7, 2024. Texas State and UTSA will return to the Alamodome on Sept. 11, 2021, and play there on Sept. 9, 2023 and Sept. 6, 2025.
Here's a thought, how about a "neutral" site game at the Alamodome every year, half the tickets go to Texas State half to UTSA, maroon on one side, orange on the other. Make this the event for both teams early in the season. Just a thought.
Texas State and UTSA previously played one time on Nov. 24, 2012, when both were members of the WAC. The game drew a crowd of 39,032 at the Alamodome.
