We have a name for U of H's new football stadium, and it's a mouthful. When the Cougars charge out the tunnel against UTSA to kick off the 2014 season they'll run into Texas Dow Employee's Credit Union Stadium, or TDECU for short. Just rolls off the tongue doesn't it.
Looking to name a stadium? It'll run you about $15 million for a 10 year deal. Nothing says U of H like TDECU. Just draws on memories of Bill Yoeman and Andre Ware don't it. TDECU also gets a 50 yard line suite, discounted tickets out of the deal and I would assume all the cotton candy and bottled water they can handle.
For those of you scoring at home here are the rest of the round-up schools (aka Texas centric) stadium naming rights deals.
Apogee Stadium, North Texas: The Mean Green will bank $1 million a year over the course of a 20-year deal.
Jones AT&T Stadium, Texas Tech: The Red Raiders' stadium name switched from Jones SBC Stadium when SBC bought AT&T. The company, whatever it's called, gave Texas Tech $30 million around the turn of the century.
McLane Stadium, Baylor: Baylor received the lead donation of $260 million from Drayton McLane Jr. and his family.
Hey, they checked the lights at TDECU as well. They work apparently.
