The recipe for losing football isn’t exact, but if there are defined elements they would be losing the turnover battle and an inability to stop the run. The Longhorns nailed both on Saturday in Morgantown. Texas turned the ball over five times and allowed Wendell Smallwood to run wild.
Texas may have a star in running back D’Onta Foreman, who rushed for 147 yards himself including 65 yard rocket ride. West Virginia’s Skyler Howard was 10-12 for 122 yards passing. Texas actually out-gained and out-possessed West Virginia, but could not overcome five turnovers (3 fumbles and 2 interceptions).
Texas gets Texas Tech at home before traveling to Baylor to face the Bears.
Blurbs and Notes:
- Foreman has 3 of the 6 longest plays from scrimmage this season for the Longhorns: 93 rush, 81 rush, 65 rush
- Texas has only lost 2 games when scoring first under Charlie Strong: Last year’s OU game and Saturday.
- Malik Jefferson had 11 tackles for his first 10+ tackle game.
