What We Saw: Rice 22 UNC Charlotte 21

RICE WON AGAIN! Suck it bottom 10. The Owl's are back! UNC Charlotte is a basketball school anyway, you don't let the Owls into your Johnny high school stadium and expect to walk out with a W.

Here's what we saw:

  1. Tyler Stehling 4 Heisman. Tyler Stehling had a huge Saturday for the Owls. 297 yards thru the air, 93 yards on the ground, three total touchdowns including the game winner on the ground in the fourth. Good for Stehling, a senior who's waited his turn and certainly hasn't had the senior season he envisioned. Saturday gave Stehling a pretty great high note.
  2. Rice's defense came up big. For the first time all season Rice dominated on the defensive end. The Owls D only allowed three first downs in the second half and 78 total yards. That performance gave Rice's offense the chance to forge the comeback. Keep in mind Charlotte isn't terrible. They've won four games and have been competitive in the Eastern Division of the conference.
  3. Never give up. Never ever give up. Rice spotted the 49ers a 21 point lead in the first half and then reeled off 22 straight to get a much needed win for David Bailiff and the program. It would be easy for the Owls to pack it in especially after losing to 1-7 Florida Atlantic. Down 21 Rice didn't quit and now they're having a pretty fun plane ride home.

Rice welcomes 3-7 UTEP on Saturday.
