What We Saw: North Texas 29 Southern Miss 23

Chalk up another nice W for the Seth Littrell era at UNT. This time over a USM team that was a preseason Western division favorite and now finds itself 5-6.

Here's what we saw...

Next Man Up...

At this point everyone is banged up, North Texas is no exception so when Mason Fine and Jeffrey Wilson went down in less than 72 hours the Mean Green's depth was tested. So far it has passed. Alec Marks came in for Fine and looked serviceable in throwing for the second highest passing yardage total of UNT's season. He also was smart enough to give the ball to Willy Ivery, who rushed for 111 yards on 18 carries. With their defense, UNT can win with those numbers most days.

Who's that guy...

Turner Smiley tree'd out on Saturday night, setting career marks for catches, yards, touchdowns and longest reception. Smiley almost doubled his reception total on Saturday night and had five more catches than any other UNT player. His two first quarter touchdowns set the tone for the Mean Green.

The Drive

North Texas jump out to a 20-0 lead on the Golden Eagles, and then Katy Bar the Door, USM scored 23 straight to not only climb back in front, but steal away all the momentum, if in fact momentum does exist. North Texas was then forced to resume, you know, playing football and stuff. UNT answered with a beautiful six play 65 yards. Morris completed three of four for 37 yards and Willy Ivory did the rest, rushing twice for twenty eight yards and the go ahead and ultimately winning touchdown.

North Texas travels to UTEP to finish 2016.
