What We Saw: FAU 42 Rice 25

The last winnable shot out of the Rice roman candle flickered helplessly to earth Saturday afternoon with a 42-25 loss to 1-7 Florida Atlantic. Florida Atlantic set seasons highs for yards and points against the Owls. FAU's 658 yards was 201 more than their previous high and their 45 point output was four more than they scored against FCS opponent Southern Illinois.

We're going to focus on positives for Rice, so...

Here's what we saw with rose colored glasses:

- Rice averaged 8.5 yards per pass was the second highest total of the season. The highest came against Prairie View two weeks ago. Hooray for that!

- Kylen Granson set a career high for receptions (7) and yards (87). Granson, a true freshman from Austin Westlake is 6'3 220 pounds of potential. Granson didn't see action until October, he's steadily become more of a weapon in the passing game. Yippee.

- There are only three of these left! A road game at Charlotte (they beat USM yesterday in Hattiesburg), a home date with UTEP, and a road trip to Stanford. After that the Owls can shape whatever future they'd like. Dare to dream.

Rice travels to UNC Charlotte next Saturday.
