Final 2016 Power Rankings

Houston Cougars (9-3): Houston for the second year in a row has ended the season up on top of the Power Rankings. Now if they can just find a coach.

Texas A&M (8-4): A&M for the second year in a row limped into the finish. It’s deja vu all over again.

TCU (6-6): The Horned Frogs dropped a game to K-State at home, but 24. The roller coaster is real.

Texas (5-7): Chuck’s gone, Tom’s in. Hope in Austin springs eternal once again. Until it doesn’t.

Texas Tech (5-7): Kliff can’t survive another season like his 2016 season. A lot of that hinges on whether Tech can learn to play defense. We aren’t holding our breath.

UTSA 6-6): The first bowl game in school history and the Roadrunners get to travel to Albuquerque to play New Mexico. Living the dream.

Baylor (6-6): Baylor went from 6-0 to 0-6. Penthouse to the outhouse. Jim Grobe deserves a medal for substitute teaching this year.

SMU (5-7): The best new out of SMU was that Chad Morris is coming back to the Hilltop. 2017 could be a big year for SMU.

UTEP (4-8): The Miners are keeping Kugler and trying to put together a decent 2017. If Aaron Jones goes pro, that’ll be a lot harder.

North Texas (5-7): North Texas got to a bowl game based on their APR and a 5-7 finish. Ain’t the bowl system grand! They get a rematch with Army in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Rice (3-9): David Bailiff returns, his coaching staff will change and they’ll break in a new quarterback. Will that be enough to right the ship? It’s win or go home for Bailiff.

Texas State (2-10): The Everett Withers rebuild in San Marvelous didn’t get off the ground. It may have dug the hole deeper.
