North Texas' Run Game Takes a Hit With Loss of Willy Ivery

Willy Ivery was declared academically ineligible for the Heart of Texas Bowl in December, now the news has gotten worse as Brett Vito on his excellent Mean Green Blog is reporting that Ivery is no longer with the program

Ivery, a rising senior from Sulphur Springs, was second on the team in rushing yards in 2016 with 489 yards on 90 carries, the third placed back had just 21 carries. Ivery was a nice complement to Jeffrey Wilson, especially given Wilson's injury issues. Wilson has missed seven games the last three years including in 2016 and was severely limited in a third.

Ivery started the last three games of 2016 with Wilson out. Ivery's three touchdowns vs. Rice carried North Texas to a win in double overtime over the Owls and his 111 yards vs. Southern Miss on 18 carries was a career high.

Senior Andrew Tucker from Chapel Hill will be asked to fill part of the void left by Ivery but Head Coach/running back coach Seth Littrell will hope that Jeffrey Wilson can stay on the field in 2017.
