Keys to the Game: North Texas and Florida Atlantic

And the ante rises with each win. The Mean Green victory over UTSA just ensures that Saturday's contest with Florida Atlantic will be worth even more. A few keys to a North Texas win.

No complacency

While they'll never admit it, the Mean Green must guard against a drop-off. The Mean Green put a lot into their victory over UTSA and circled the game on their schedule. A road trip to Miami comes at a bad time. Expect Seth Littrell to preach consistency and intensity to his team this week. FAU is another big one.

Who are the Owls?

FAU is an unknown commodity. They are 3-3, 2-0 in league play. They've yet to beat a team with a winning record but hung around top 10 ranked Wisconsin in week two. In a lot of ways, North Texas is a litmus test for Lane Kiffin's squad. By the end of Saturday night, we'll know a lot more about the Owls.

Defend the Ground

In spite of Lane Kiffin's perceived love affair with the pass, the Owls have found success on the ground. FAU is a top 20 rushing team, averaging almost 260 yards a game and six yards a rush. Last week they torched Old Dominion for 453 yards, their second 400-yard rushing performance in 2017. They average 250 more yards rushing in wins vs. losses. With former Baylor Offensive Coordinator Kendal Briles running the offense that's no surprise. Baylor consistently led the Big 12 in rushing yards during his time in Waco. The Owls have found a formula, and North Texas needs an answer.
