Planning Your Football Weekend

The season is almost half over. As sad as that seems, there's so much to live for. TCU might be a playoff team, Texas Tech has a defense, so does UTSA, SMU might be better than they've been since the Reagan administration, and Baylor and UTEP are racing towards winless seasons. We get to watch it all happen for a few precious weeks. Then we have to pretend to care about hockey or the NBA.

Let's attack this weekend with the vigor of a USC player attacking a helpless Washington State fan.

All times Texas.

Texas Tech at Kansas 11:00 a.m. FS1

Every year we warn teams, and every year they saunter up to Lawrence and get all they can handle from the Jayhawks. Here's a list of close calls and Charlie Strong Death Nail Games from the recent past

2016:

TCU 24 Kansas 23

Texas 21 Kansas 24

2015:

Texas Tech 30 Kansas 20

2014

TCU 34 Kansas 30

2012

Texas 21 Kansas 17

Tech, you're on notice, don't fool around in Kansas or WE WILL NEVER LET YOU FORGET IT.

West Virginia at TCU 2:30 p.m.

College GameDay is coming to Fort Worth. What's your over under on minutes into the broadcast before they show a cattle drive? Mark us down for the opening montage before Tom Rinaldi tries to make us cry.

Coach Holgo returns to Texas yet again. His dissertation as to the merits of Gatorade in a can is terrific and it really makes you think.

Army at Rice 5:30 p.m. beIN

With Sean Kugler out at UTEP, the next shoe to drop probably comes at West U. We're now going all in on the David Bailiff farewell tour. It starts with Army invading this week. You have about six more opportunities to see a David Bailiff team lose, don't miss that chance.

Kansas State at Texas 6:00 p.m. FS1

Tom Herman said that he wants to rebuild his program the way Bill Snyder rebuilt Kansas State. Geez Tom, don't let Urben Meyer hear you say that, crediting someone other than Urban Meyer isn't a core value.

Wizard Bill Snyder takes great pride in beating Texas. He's breaking out his favorite Valero Alamo Bowl pullover for this one.

SMU at Houston 6:00 p.m. CBSSports

Crank up the Old Raycom SWC intro; it's the Ponies and the Coogs. The good old days, Bill Yeoman's veer, the Pony Express, Texas Stadium, the Astrodome, and everyone getting paid! It was a better time kids.

Alabama at Texas A&M 6:15 p.m. ESPN

In spite of what you might hear, A&M doesn't want Bama. No one does. Bama is a different species and plays a different sport on Saturdays than the rest of the SEC. That difference will be on full display Saturday night.

If Sumlin keeps it within 30, he should be off the hot seat. If he keeps it within 20, extend his contract. If he gets it within ten, commission a statue.

Louisiana Monroe at Texas State 2:00 p.m. WatchESPN

Texas State has a winnable game! Alert the National Guard. Kill your prized goat. Crack open the Pearl Light Stubbies. Call your ex-from high school and tell her what you never had the guts to tell her. Embrace LIFE! We may never pass this way again.

Southern Miss at UTSA 6:00 p.m. Facebook/Stadium

We're not saying UTSA's schedule's been lacking so far, but Art Briles thinks it's weak. The Roadrunners beat two teams on the CBSSports bottom 25 and Southern who's best attribute is its tuba section.  Southern Miss is marginally good at football, an enormous leap up from UTSA's first three opponents.

Western Kentucky at UTEP 7:00 p.m. CUSATV

WELCOME TO THE MIKE PRICE ERA 2.0. It's rolling El Paso. Think of it as prolonged interaction with an escort service, no strings attached but maybe we'll get some fun anecdotes out of it, do some things you've never done, but hopefully not leave with an STD. Or as Mike Price calls it, Tuesday night.

 Here comes the Hot Steppa.
