The most important hire in recent memory is closer to becoming a reality with reports that the administration has narrowed its list of potential replacements for departed AD Bob Stull. The Miners, according to reports, have narrowed their list down to The Citadel's Jim Senter, Northern Arizona's Lisa Campos, and UTEP associate AD Chris Park.
Senter came to The Citadel in 2014 after stints at Colorado, San Diego State, and Idaho. Senter hired current Citadel coach Brent Thompson who led the Bulldogs to a 10-2 record in his first season. He also hired Duggar Baucom as head basketball coach in 2015, Baucom is 22-43 in two season.
Lisa Campos received her doctorate from UTEP and took over Northern Arizona in 2012. She inherited NAU football coach Jerome Souers, who's in his 20th season in Flagstaff. Souers announced this season is his last, marking the first time Campos is hiring a coach of a revenue sport. Campos' record at NAU includes 32 conference titles as well as last season's NCAA Division I men's cross country title, the first-ever national championship for the school. NAU hired her away from her position as senior associate athletic director at UTEP in 2012.
UTEP's Chris Park is the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and External Operations. That's a full business card Chris. Prior to his time with the Miners, he spent six years at Texas State as Assistant Athletic Director and also worked in athletics at Sam Houston State and Texas A&M. Thus far Park is more of an event organizer in his current capacity, organizing the 50th Anniversary celebration for the 1966 Championship team and the festivities from last year’s football game with Army.
UTEP is replacing Bob Stull with an AD who's going to hire a football coach within the first two months on the job and potentially a basketball coach as well if Tim Floyd's 2017-18 season doesn't show improvement.
