Dash for Cash: Bowl Projections and No Whammies

We're three-quarters of the way through the season, and several rounds up squads have secured bowl births or are right on the verge. Here's an overview of where the prognosticators think SWC teams will be turning up.

Jerry Palm predicts the 8-1 Frogs windup in the Fiesta Bowl, taking on USC. SBNation reckons TCU will play Michigan State in the Cotton. ESPN's David Hale has the Frogs making the Cotton as well but playing Washington while Kyle Bonagura has them in Fiesta as well, taking on Washington.

Best Scenario: As fun as the Cotton Bowl might be, a Fiesta Bowl tilt with USC would be ideal in our estimation.

The 6-3 Cougars will be playing in the first ever Frisco Bowl against the Ohio Bobcats. SBNation agrees but places the Cougars in Frisco against Wyoming. Bonagura has the Cougars playing in something called the Bad Boy Mowers Bowl in St. Petersburg. Meanwhile Hale has Houston in the Liberty Bowl vs. Cal.

Best Scenario: Give us Liberty or give us death. Anything but a game played in St. Pete in a baseball stadium.

Palm has the 6-3 Mustangs traveling to Hawaii and taking on Colorado State. SBNation projects SMU to the Bad Boy Mowers Bowl and playing FIU, aka the truancy bowl because no one will be in attendance. Hale agrees with the Colorado State in the Hawaii Bowl prediction, while Bonagura has the Mustangs playing in the Military Bowl vs. Akron.

Best Scenario: We want to say a meteor strike, but we guess Bad Boy Mowers.

North Texas

North Texas will head to New Mexico according to Palm, where they'll play the San Diego State. SBNation, Bonagura, and Hale all have the Mean Green in the Armed Forces Bowls against Army.

Best Scenario: A matchup with Army will be the fourth in two years, New Mexico is the play here.

The rest of the Texas squads haven't qualified, but that isn't stopping folks from predicting they will.

SBNation thinks the Roadrunners will return to New Mexico but play Colorado State this time. No one else thinks UTSA qualified.

Texas A&M

Palm and Hale have A&M in the Texas Bowl again, this time against West Virginia. SBNation likes the Aggies for the Music City Bowl vs. Indiana. Bonagura has the Aggies in the Taxslayer Bowl vs. Louisville.

Best Scenario: Aggies and Louisville in a rematch of the 2015 Music City Bowl.

Jerry Palm is bullish on the Longhorns; he's got Herman's squad playing Kentucky in the Liberty Bowl. SBNation puts Texas in the Camping World Bowl vs. Virginia Tech, while Bonagura and Hale have Texas going to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowls, with Bonagura predicting a matchup with Utah and Hale with Arizona State.

Texas Tech

Tech needs two wins to qualify, and no one thinks that's an attainable goal.
