Baylor quarterback Zach Smith announced his intention to transfer yesterday. The sophomore from Grandview started for parts of two seasons under two different coaches, Jim Grobe and Matt Rhule.
Most recently, in 2017, Smith lost his job to true freshman Charlie Brewer. The high point of Smith's Baylor run came in the 2016 Cactus Bowl against Boise, where Smith threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns. He'll have to sit out next season and will then have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Baylor's QB room is left, for now, with Brewer and two walk-ons, Preston Heard and Zack Bennema. Graduate transfer Anu Solomon was forced to give up the game due to medical issues associated with concussions.
