Frank Wilson's staff got a little lighter today with the news that special teams coach Rickey Brumfield and safeties coach Patrick Toney are leaving. Brumfield heads to Virginia while Toney is off to Louisiana Lafayette.
Those defections add to the firing of OC Frank Scelfo and the departure of DC Pete Golding for Bama. Add to that the newly enacted 10th assistant and Wilson has five openings on his staff for 2018. Consider it a blank canvas to work with.
Brumfield coached at Western Kentucky and Nichols State prior to moving to UTSA in 2016, in addition to special teams he also coached tight ends for the Roadrunners. Toney coached at Sam Houston State and Southeastern Louisiana before coming to UTSA in 2016.
Ryan Pugh, UTSA's offensive line coach just confirmed on Twitter that he's leaving UTSA to reunite with his old boss, Jeff Grimes, at BYU. San Antonio might may be out of UHaul trucks before 8:00 p.m. tonight.
