In some shocking news, at least to us, UTEP has settled on (drumroll please) Dana Dimel (fart noises please). We want to give Dana a chance, and we will but color us skeptical. Highly skeptical.
For the uninitiated, Dana Dimel drove the Houston Cougar program into the muck, posting an 8-26 record and throwing down an 0-11 season in 2001. He left U of H in 2002, or rather was asked to leave, took a few years off and then went back to alma mater Kansas State as GA. A graduate assistant. Dimel was a head coach at Wyoming and Houston and took two years off before he came back as a GA.
Dimel's been Arizona before returning to Kansas State as offensive coordinator, running backs, and tight ends coach. What does Dimel bring to the table? We have no idea.
Dimel's offenses at Kansas State never finished better than sixth in the league total offense and sixth was the outlier. Kansas State finished ninth in total offense in the ten-team Big 12 the last three seasons, finishing ahead of only Kansas in those seasons.
We wanted a home run Jim Senter, and instead, it looks like a groundout.
