Rice has rebranded its athletic logos and word marks and made the results public today. The Owls have a new Owl logo or two but they are keeping the Old English "R."
From the Owl's rebranding site: "Over the last two years, the Rice University Athletics Department has partnered with Torch Creative and adidas to create an identity that is consistent, authentic and recognizable. Our goal is to make our visual assets align closely with our vision, which further reinforces our commitment to athletic excellence."
The results showed that the Old English “R” that is featured on the Rice baseball caps and on banners and advertisements throughout the city is the most recognizable and valued to the Rice community. So the Old English "R" is still the primary logo/word mark. They also found out that no one really cares about the Owl logos so why not change 'em up. This is what they came up with.
We're sure this translates into wins and championships on the field.
