Texas FBS School APR Scores

In perhaps the most non-suprising result in 2017 Rice had the highest the NCAA APR Score for the Texas FBS schools. APR stands for Academic Progress Rate and measures academic progress and how universities move their athletes along the road to graduation. Poor APR scores can result in significant NCAA penalties, including scholarship reductions and postseason penalties.

The average APR for football teams during the four-year period ending in 2015-16 is 966 while the average APR from 2012-13 to 2015-16 for football programs was 957. For trivia sake the highest average APR comes from gymnastics athletes who average 990 for men's gymnastics and 994 for women's gymnastics. So gymnasts are smart.
