North Texas picks up Massive Grad Transfer from ACU

Riley Mayfied, all 6-7 290 pounds of him, is transferring to North Texas and will be eligible in 2017. Mayfield played high school ball at Cedar Park High School just outside Austin. Mayfield had offers from Texas State, Central Arkansas, and Abilene Christian.

Mayfield missed 2015 recovering from a knee injury, but returned in 2016 and was named to the Honorable Mention All-Southland team. He started 23 straight games for the Wildcats all at right tackle. In his two years starting ACU recorded an 8-15 record.

Hard to know how Mayfield fits into North Texas' offensive line plans for 2017 but he will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. Currently Jalen Thomas and Jordan Murray look to be at the top of the depth chart. Elex Woodworth is in the mix as well, but may move inside to shore up some depth issues there. Chandler Anthony missed last season with a leg injury and should factor at tackle.

Murray started six games at left tackle with Elex Woodworth starting the other seven.  Trey Keenan started all thirteen games at right tackle and has since graduated.
