Houston Waiting on Top Recruit to Clear Eligibility Hurdle

Houston's top recruit, 3-Star defensive end Bryan Jones, is waiting to enroll as he may have hit a minor snag relating to his eligibility. Chron.com is reporting that Jones has yet to enroll for summer classes with the rest of the 2017 class due to issues with his "admissions paperwork."

Jones turned heads when he decommitted from Ole Miss last October and then chose the Cougars over Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Georgia, Baylor, Arizona State and a number of other Power 5s.

At 6-5, 240 pounds Jones is in line to compete early for playing time in new defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio's defense. Major Applewhite was asked about the snag and Jones' eligibility at his golf tournament in Kingwood yesterday. Applewhite declined to go into specifics, but said that Jones did have some NCAA issues the Cougars were working to rectify.

Houston could use all the defensive line help it can get this season after losing several key contributors from the 2016 squad.
