UTEP Could Get Quadraiz Wadley Back This Season

Quadraiz Wadley has gone from out for the season to out of a lot of the season to possible back sooner than later. Wadley was UTEP's option A to replace running back Aaron Jones after Jones went to the NFL; however, Wadley suffered a shoulder surgery this spring. Wadley, a sophomore from Kennedale, rushed for 168 yards in limited duty as a true freshman.

Head coach Sean Kugler initially announced that Wadley would miss the season, but the prognosis is more optimistic recently, and while Wadley is out for the opener against Oklahoma, Kugler noted he should be back eventually. The job of replacing Jones now falls to some combination of Kevin Dove, Walter Dawn, Josh Fields, and Ronald Awatt.

Dove and Dawn form a readily made change of pace package with Dove's size contrasting the diminutive Dawn. Dawn has emerged as camp progresses into a two-down back with Dove handling short yardage and goal line duty. Wadley, if healthy, is the most complete back on the roster. The Miners should get him back on the field sooner than expected.
