The season giveth, the season taketh away. Texas Tech scored a major coup with the news that running back Da'Leon Ward is eligible to play this season. Ward is working his way into shape and the Tech rotation. As late as last week his status for the season was unknown due to academic issues. Ward led the Red Raiders in rushing yards with 428 last season.
On the other side of the coin, linebacker D'Vonta Hinton left the program Wednesday. The junior from Texas City came out of the spring listed second on the depth chart at middle linebacker. Hinton's inconsistent presence had as much to do with his leaving the program as anything. He started four of the first five games last season, missed the last seven, participated in all but one session of spring football and again was absent for at least part of preseason practice. As fall practice kicked off, Kingsbury acknowledged that Hinton's issues, stating that injury and "a number of things" were the cause of his absence.
Tech's game notes currently list sophomore Christian Taylor as the back up middle linebacker.
