Sam Glaesmann Out for Rice Home Opener

David Bailiff announced Tuesday at his weekly press conference that starting quarterback Sam Glaesmann will miss the Owl's opener vs. FIU Saturday. Glaesmann suffered a shoulder injury at the hands of the Houston defense. He's lucky it wasn't worse.

In his place, Jackson Tyner will start and touted freshman Miklo Smalls will provide depth. Doubtful the Owls want to burn Smalls' redshirt, but when J.T. Granato transferred to Missouri State in August, their depth took a hit.

Several other Owls are doubtful after the Houston game including running back Samuel Stewart, defensive end Blaine Padgett and starting safety Cole Thomas. V.J. Banks who went down in the UTEP win will is also doubtful to return against the Panthers.
