The woman responsible for the UTSA's football program and athletic department growth, Lynn Hickey, resigned this morning effective immediately. Before we get into the "immediately" part, let's take a look at her tenure in charge in San Antonio.
Hickey joined UTSA in 1999 in her time UTSA competed in the Southland, the WAC, and now Conference USA. UTSA added a women's golf team, a women's soccer team, and of course a football team. She led the Roadrunners to three conference commissioner’s cups and two two league all-sports trophies. Recently the city passed a bond enabling the Roadrunners to develop the University's on-campus facilities further.
Hickey hired Larry Coker to oversee the inception and development of the football program and the fore site to bring in Frank Wilson, a coach who'd never been a coordinator at the college level, to take UTSA to the next level.
Hickey's resignation is sudden, most AD's will at least wait until a successor is found or give themselves some cushion. Two of Hickey's athletic department lieutenants left the office in the past six months. Senior Assistant Brad Parrott left in June, and assistant athletic director Jim Goodman left the school in February.
UTSA promises a national search to find Hickey's replacement.
