If North Texas has plans on repeating as CUSA West champs, the first three games of the league schedule will dictate their aspirations. CUSA released its 2018 football schedules today, and North Texas gets a challenge right out of the box.
North Texas opens league play with Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, and UAB in three of their first four league games. If Seth Littrell's bunch is going to make a run at the crown, they'll get a run at three teams with similar aspirations.
Last season the Mean Green beat Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss on the road and narrowly escaped UAB at home. UAB was in their first season back playing ball and qualified for a bowl after winning eight games. North Texas travels to Birmingham on October 20th.
As for crossover games, North Texas gets Old Dominion and FAU, the latter in Denton. Last year the Mean Green lost to FAU twice, neither game was particularly close, both games were in Boca, aka the capital of the Kiffin dynasty.
In other news the rivalry of the new Millennium gets the headline status, it deserves as the Roadrunners and Mean Green tangle to end the regular season on November 24th. Last year North Texas needed a 90 plus yard drive in the final minute to beat UTSA in Denton.
