When you start off with three Power Five schools, it's a tough ask for your average G5. With Arizona State, Baylor, and Kansas State in consecutive weeks and two of those three are on the road. UTSA could be good but also 0-3 to start the year. Who knows? But at least now we know who's on the conference docket.
After a home date with their bed sheet rival Texas State, UTSA starts off with a light league schedule against UTEP and Rice. Those teams went a combined 1-23 last season and will each break in new coaches.
Then comes the meat, a six week stretch against Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, UAB, FIU, Marshall, and North Texas. What all those teams have in common? They all qualified for bowl games in 2017. Given UTSA's 2017 struggles against teams with winning records, the Roadrunners are in for a gauntlet to end their season.
The four-game run of Southern Miss, UAB, FIU and Marshall is particularly harsh with three of those four on the road. The Runners get a bye week between USM and UAB, so it's a tad more tolerable.
Should be fun to watch but awful to prepare for.
