Baylor's K.J. Smith won't be able to play in 2018 after the NCAA denied his application for a 6th year of eligibility. Smith played in just one game 2017 due to a leg injury. He was the most productive bear defender in 2016 with eleven tackles for loss and seven sacks and garnered All-Big 12 recognition.
Smith, from Frisco Centennial, made the Nagurski and Bednarik preseason lists last season, but his injury prevented him from competing for the accolades. Smith started 25 games in his Baylor career. His twelve sacks place him ninth on Baylor's All-Time list.
