Less than three months from kickoff of the 2018 season, Stephen F. Austin suspends head coach Clint Conque pending the conclusion of an internal investigation. The investigation involves violations of "university policies" but other than that nugget, the press release is understandably vague. The investigation is expected to take several weeks.
While at Central Arkansas, Conque admitted to an "inappropriate relationship" before the 2010 season. He coached at UCA through the 2013 season when he took the job at SFA. We have no idea whether the current situation is at all similar to the issue at Central Arkansas.
No word yet on an interim coach to serve during the investigation. This is a critical time for recruiting as camp season is well underway. Earlier in the spring, Mary Harden Baylor suspended head coach Peter Fredenburg for self-reported NCAA violations.
