Clint Conque Resigns at SFA

Months after the University suspended him pending the outcome of an internal investigation, Clint Conque resigned his head coaching position with Stephen F. Austin. Conque announced the news last week and the University confirmed that interim coach Jeff Byrd will coach the Lumberjacks in 2018, after that the school will reaccess the situation.

The University suspended Conque for alleged violations of school policy in June. An internal investigation is on going into the matter. Conque said in his statement that he remains confident he'll be cleared of any wrongdoing but wants to move on with his career and avoid any further distraction for the team.

Conque was 21-25 in four seasons with the Lumberjacks, including a 4-7 record in 2017.

Byrd, the program's defensive coordinator, spent 2017 with SFA. Prior to that he'd had stints at Tennessee Tech, Arkansas Tech, Southern Arkansas and Northwest Mississippi College. He was also a co-offensive coordinator at Mars Hill College.

The Lumberjacks open 2018 at Mississippi State.
