Texas Tech added depth to their safety position with the addition of former Longhorn John Bonney. Bonney was competing for playing time at safety in Austin, but the emergence of true freshman Caden Sterns left him without a starting position.
Bonney is one of the last of the Mack Brown recruits. Brown offered Bonney and he signed with Charlie Strong. He signed with Texas as a member of the 2014 recruiting class out of Houston Lamar and was a composite four-star recruit. Bonnie appeared in 37 games with 15 starts. He graduated in December so he's eligible to play for Texas Tech immediately.
He should suit up for the Red Raiders this week.
