What a difference a year makes. In Matt Rhule's first spring the Bears fielded seven scholarship offensive linemen, now Baylor has eighteen. JUCO transfer Johncarlo Valentin and redshirt freshman Elseah Anderson and Khalil Keith are adding quality depth according to senior Patrick Lawrence.
The Mean Green linebacker picture is clearing up with established players like E.J. Ejiya and Brandon Garner taking starting reps according to Brett Vito of the Denton Record Chronicle. Joe Ozougwu is also getting reps with the first team. Ozougwu played in a backup role to 2018 starter Joshua Wheeler at the Jack position. We wrote about Ozougwu in our "Picks to Pop" series here.
In other news from Wednesday's practice, Purdue transfer Tim Faison may not be in the mix to start or contribute after missing spring practice. Seth Littrell also noted that Faison missed time in fall camp due to various "protocols."
The Frogs are looking to replace Ross Blacklock after losing him for the season due to an Achilles injury. Gary Patterson will turn to redshirt freshman Terrell Cooper initially. Patterson noted that if the current redshirt rule were in place last season, Cooper would've seen the field in 2017.
In other news TCU placed its cheerleading coach on administrative leave, we have no idea why but given the current climate we can only assume the worst.
Octavious Morgan watched practice on Wednesday on a pair of crutches and a knee brace according to the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. The Red Raiders are adjusting to Morgan's injury as well as Jah'Shawn Johnson's shoulder injury. DeMarcus Fields and Desmon Smith were at corner on Wednesday with Thomas Leggett and Justus Parker at safety and Douglas Coleman at nickel back. Johnson suited up but medical staff held him out of contact.
The Roadrunners went through a physical workout on Wednesday. In team, they focused on short yardage and goalline. From Frank Wilson, "Physical, physical football day today for this team. I'm pleased with the way we competed and came out healthy." UTSA's offense will mix in tempo as well to take advantage of teams that are tired.
