Bryson Smith moving to receiver...Sort of

A few months ago backup quarterback was a major issue for the Coogs, now with Quinten Dormady transferring in from Tennessee, Houston has the luxury to move Bryson Smith to receiver so the explosive athlete can get on the field. OC Kendal Briles is excited to get Smith on the field in any capacity, "if you have a guy that's really talented, then you find ways to get him the ball. He's really that guy. He's very explosive. He can handle it from a mental capacity."

Herman give Ehlinger a slight edge heading into fall camp

If Texas were to start the season today Sam Ehlinger would run out to take the first snap. "He's earned that because obviously just going all the way back to the winter where Shane [Buechele] was hurt, rehabbing" Tom Herman told the media during his press conference yesterday.

In other Texas news, Herman and his equipment staff announced that Texas will wear black cleats and socks for home games this season a return to a look used during the Mack Brown era.

Mond and Starkel on even footing.

Jimbo Fisher put his charges through their first camp workout Thursday and was pleased with his two quarterbacks Kellen Mond and Nick Starkel. In particular he was pleased with some of the run checks the quarterbacks were making. The key to who'll start according to Fisher is who "wins the team."
