On Tuesday Florida Atlantic had a new quarterback in the fold, graduate transfer Rafe Peavey. Peavey is becoming the Lewis and Clark of college football given the ground he's covering. The four-star prospect from Missouri signed with Arkansas and after two seasons transferred to SMU where he sat out the 2016 season.
Peavey completed four of four passes in 2017 as a Mustang but couldn't unseat incumbent Ben Hicks. Peavey follow D.J. Gillins, another four-star transfer, in leaving the Hilltop this offseason. Gillins transferred out of Wisconsin to the JUCO ranks before arriving at SMU. He's at UTSA now.
FAU's currently embroiled in a quarterback battle after last year's starter Jeff Driskel announced he was giving up football. Former Florida State signee and Last Chance U quarterback DeAndre Johnson is there along with former Oklahoma signee and Mesquite Horn prospect Chris Robison.
At SMU the backup slot to Hicks will fall to either early enrollee William Brown or redshirt freshman Austin Upshaw. Brown looked to have a slight edge out of spring.
