The Red Raiders picked up another grad transfer, this time in Rice quarterback and baseball pitcher Jackson Tyner. At 6-5, 255 pounds, Tyner is a big passer who saw his most significant action at Rice in 2017 when he started twice and threw for 598 yards. Last season Tyner threw twenty passes, completing nine.
Tyner saw his first action as a redshirt freshman in the season finale against Stanford in Palo Alto, completing 10 of 37 attempts for 68 yards.
Tech’s quarterback situation is established with Alan Bowman back along with Jett Duffey, giving the Red Raiders one of the better 1-2 combos in the Big 12. Bowman is an All-Conference caliber quarterback, and Duffey is an explosive athlete who’s developing into an efficient passer.
Tyner will give the Red Raiders some experienced depth at the position. Mike Bloomgren moved away from him last season, choosing to give playing time to grad transfer Shawn Stankavage, Evan Marshman, and true freshman Wiley Green.
